Blade & Feather

A Queer Fantasy Noir

Ri is a private investigator adrift without family or magic in a world where she’ll need both if she wants to survive her next case.

She is the protagonist of BLADE & FEATHER, an 89,000 word queer fantasy noir where the people she has loved and left behind are targeted by an arcane killer who invites her to the scene of their first crime. When called to investigate a murder where the victim’s heart has been ritually removed, Ri thinks it’s just another day on the job. But with a little help from a brilliant but morally grey mechanist and an anxious gunslinger, she uncovers the truth: the killer wants to topple the Empire, and their weapon of choice is Ri herself. If she hopes to survive, Ri must confront the people she left behind before they fall to the killer’s blade.

About the Book

BLADE & FEATHER, an 89,000-word fantasy noir novel in the vein of A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab and Uprooted by Naomi Novik. Featuring a gruff trans-female protagonist, visceral action scenes, and atmospheric storytelling, BLADE & FEATHER explores themes of queer identity and ecology through the experiences of its characters.

BLADE & FEATHER was born from the realization that who you are now isn’t who you always have to be. When I first sat down to bring this book to life, I was between jobs and struggling to find my passion in a world that felt impossible to stay afloat in. Writing Ri’s journey helped me process and overcome my own doubts, and I hope readers come away with much the same recognition.
